Shell EcoMarathon started as a bet in a Shell research laboratory in USA at 1939. Scientists betted on who can go farthest on one gallon of fuel. Races inspired by this humble bet are evolved and expanded towards Europe in time. The Shell EcoMarathon as we konw, has started at France in 1985. Every year it attracted thousands of young engineers and scientists by thanks to increasing number of countries and schools.

Shell EcoMarathon is an annually held interantional race, that attempts to draw public attention to efficent use of energy by provoking teenagers to build fuel efficent cars. Every year, students all over the world, from various technical schools and univercities, compete each other by covering most distance while spending least fuel as they race the cars they build.
